The provincial government, under Gov. RV Evardone, joined DA-8 in launching Rice Derby 2026 on July 19 in Barangay Gap-ang, Dolores, a town long known as Eastern Samar’s rice granary for posting the province’s largest rice harvest.
The 150.40-hectare demonstration will guide approximately 200 farmer cooperators in testing climate-resilient, cost-efficient rice technologies, including the province-wide use of the adaptive balanced fertilization strategy, throughout the cropping season.
Gov. Evardone said the initiative allows the province to identify which equipment and technologies can genuinely raise rice production in Eastern Samar.
Starting in the province’s top rice producer, the initiative aims to eventually raise yields across all of Eastern Samar’s rice-farming towns, supporting the administration’s goal of a food-secure province where no family goes hungry.
