Abtik Sulat displayed remarkable composure under pressure, overcoming a roaring home crowd to defeat the Quinapondan Fighting Carabaos in a thrilling five-set match, 21-25, 25-20, 12-25, 25-21, 15-13, and capture the ESBVL Volleyball Boys Championship.
Amid the booming drums and deafening cheers for the Fighting Carabaos, the home team took control early. Although Abtik Sulat mounted a steady comeback, the Fighting Carabaos held their ground to claim the opening set, 25-21.
Abtik Sulat responded immediately in the second set, turning up the intensity with a strong offensive surge to take the frame, 25-20, and level the match at one set apiece.
Refusing to let the visitors gain momentum, Quinapondan dominated the third set. Fueled by the energy of the home crowd, the Fighting Carabaos tightened their defense to take the set, 25-12, and regain the lead.
The fourth set was a fierce battle, with both teams trading points and refusing to give an inch. However, Abtik Sulat stayed composed in the closing moments, pulling away for a 25-21 squeaker to force a deciding fifth set.
With the championship on the line, Abtik Sulat grabbed an early advantage in the final set. As the race to 15 intensified, Quinapondan fought back to keep the contest close, but Abtik Sulat held its nerve in the clutch, sealing the set,15-13, to complete its first-ever championship triumph.
Capping off Abtik Sulat’s spectacular title run, Sean Jared L. Delmonte was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player after delivering outstanding performances throughout the competition. (TAC-GBP)
