Eastern Samar Electric Cooperative, Inc. officials met with Gov. RV Evardone on April 20 to strengthen coordination and advance efforts to improve electricity services across Eastern Samar.
During the meeting, ESAMELCO outlined key initiatives aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and ensuring a more reliable power supply. These include infrastructure modernization, reduction of system losses, financial stabilization, and improved consumer engagement.
The cooperative also presented major energy projects such as community-based solar developments, expansion of sitio electrification, and the implementation of the Department of Energy and National Electrification Administration’s photovoltaic mainstreaming program.
Plans to promote net metering in public buildings and complete the Quinapondan–Guiuan subtransmission line were likewise discussed.
Gov. Evardone said the provincial government is targeting the use of solar power in the provincial capitol’s old building and the Felipe Abrigo Memorial Hospital in Guiuan as part of efforts to adopt sustainable energy solutions.
He also sought insights on how to accelerate electrification in remote sitios, noting that many residents have been requesting government support for access to electricity. (TAC-JDM)
