Provincial, city, and municipal officials across Eastern Samar, together with family members and friends, gathered to honor the life and legacy of former Eastern Samar governor and former Sangguniang Panlalawigan member Clotilde Japzon-Salazar during a funeral mass and tribute today at the lobby of the Provincial Capitol.
Fondly known as “Nanay Tindeng” to some but “Mana Tindeng” Salazar to many, she was remembered for her 94 years of life dedicated to public service and contributions to the development of Eastern Samar.
Following the funeral mass, eulogies were delivered by officials and former colleagues who served alongside Salazar during her term in office.
Speakers shared how the late governor helped uplift the province through programs and projects whose impact continues to be felt and seen by Estehanons to this day.
Vice Gov. Maricar Sison-Goteesan and the Sangguniang Panlalawigan honored Salazar with a resolution of condolences, recognizing her leadership, service, and lasting contributions to the province.
Gov. RV Evardone likewise delivered a eulogy, sharing that although he did not personally work closely with Salazar, he became connected to her through family members and colleagues.
He also extended his sincere condolences to the bereaved family.
Family members also expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of support, sharing how thankful they were to witness many Estehanons honoring and remembering Mana Tindeng’s legacy as the first woman governor of Eastern Samar.
The tribute also featured songs by Huni Sinirangan in honor of the late former governor.
