In the aftermath of the devastating magnitude 7.8 earthquake in Sarangani, the Eastern Samar Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), led by Engr. Thomas Campomanes, spearheaded the second quarter national simultaneous earthquake drill at Pedro E. Candido Memorial National High School in Hernani on June 18, 2026.
Done in partnership with the Hernani municipal DRRMO, the drill focused on immediate protective actions during a major seismic event and safe evacuation. It was participated in by 859 students.
During the activity, response teams conducted demonstrations on fire suppression techniques and basic first aid.
Lanie Mae Dingal, Hernani MDRRO officer, said the intervention is critical for the school community as Hernani is located near the active Philippine Trench, and Brgy. Nagaja, where the school is located, is a coastal area highly vulnerable to both earthquakes and tsunamis.
The exercise was supported by the Hernani LGU represented by Councilor Roderick Dequilla, the Bureau of Fire Protection, Hernani Rural Health Unit, and Hernani PNP. (SEJ-GBP-PDRRMO)
